This design set has 8 Oriental fans in both sizes, in applique style-for a total of 16 designs. They are digitized so that you can tack your fabric swatch down, trim it, then the satin stitch covers the raw edge. (trim in place method) They will include instructions to tell you how to do machine applique, and even if you are new to it, with a little practice, you can master applique. The obvious advantage is that the stitch counts are lower for applique designs, and you can use up your fabric stash-clear down to 3" or 4" squares. I used mostly batiks for the applique fabric, but you can have a great time coordinating the thread and fabrics you prefer. You will find the look changes as you vary the fabrics and thread used. The tassels are individually created for a 3 dimensional look. These Oriental fans are also available in sashiko, which is similar to redwork (continuous line stitching) and regular fill embroidery from Anemone Embroidery.
